Besan Chilla or Besan Cheela is a delicious and healthy savory Indian pancake recipe made with nutty gram flour (besan), sweet onions, tangy tomatoes, fragrant spices and herbs. Fill the batter with your favorite grated vegetables to make your meal more nutritious, and serve as a quick breakfast, brunch.
- History
Besan Chilla (also known as Besan pudla), which simply translates to "Gram Pancake". It is originated from a North Indian State called Sindh, which is now a province in Pakistan.

In a bowl a add chickpea flour, veggies, onions, tomato, spice powder, salt and green chilies (if adding).
Mix everything well.
Add water to make batter. Slowly mix everything to avoid forming lumps. If lumps form break with fingers.
Mix well for 2-3 minutes and then keep it aside for 10 minutes.
Heat a girdle, let it become hot, add a tsp of oil, spread the batter just like for dosa/crepe or pancake.
Cook till both sides are light brown and well cooked. Apply oil when required.
Serve hot with green chutney and cup of curd

Sometimes besan produces bloating; if this happens to you, consider adding a little extra water.
